Mark Rimple

Mark Rimple is a composer whose works have been performed and presented by the 21st Century Consort (at the Smithsonian American), Parnassus, Network for New Music, Mélomanie, ChoralArts Philadelphia, The League of Composers/ISCM Chamber Players, and counter(induction, among others. He often writes for early instruments including lute, viol, and harpsichord. A selection of his songs and chamber music can be heard on his recording January (Furious Artisans Recordings) which includes vocal performances by countertenor Drew Minter and baritone Randall Scarlata. He has also performed as both singer and instrumentalist with The Newberry Consort, Trefoil, Piffaro, Network for New Music, and other prominent chamber groups. Mark has received highly favorable reviews for his performance of early and new music. His first solo lute recording Tre Liuti (available online) earned praise for his “expressive” and “extraordinarily sensitive playing”. Mark holds the rank of Professor in the Department of Music Theory, History and Composition at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where he has taught music theory, composition, and early music performance for over 25 years, and where he was the president of his campus union chapter in their first historic – and successful – strike.
